The Digital News Initiative (D NI) is a European organisation established by Google to support high quality journalism through new technologies and innovation. It encompasses an “initiative fund” worth more than Euros 150m, which in next coming years issued grants to 460 projects covering areas such as culture, environment and ecosystems, health and information, media, and product and service design. In addition to that it also sponsors the Europe Journalist Platform, and the European Press Freedom Act. Other associated activities include the European Journalism Training Program, the Global Media Track, and the European Games Show.

The DNI has published a white paper describing its mission and strategy for the digital future of media. It also provides guidelines for journalists working on the project, including key principles and ideas for digital newsrooms. In this paper, we will take a look at what digital news can mean for the press, and the public in general. We will examine the roles and responsibilities of the press, how they can be best served by a digital newsroom, and what are the different options open to press organisations when it comes to covering digital trends.

One of the key aims of the DNI was to establish a European benchmark for newsrooms to measure their performance against. As part of this effort, the European Journalism Steering Group was established to provide advice and make recommendations to the organization. This group meets regularly to exchange views and experiences and to develop strategies to support the digital transformation of the media industry. The steering group has produced several reports and white papers, which have been used as reference material in research and in planning the strategy for the future of the media. These have laid the basis for the development of the Digital News Initiative’s priorities for the next few years, which we will discuss below.

The drive behind the Digital News Initiative was the need for increased access to global quality online news. It wanted to create a world-wide digital newsrooms, where reporters and editors could meet and report from every corner of the globe. However, there are a number of challenges that journalists and editors in the traditional media face in covering new events that emerge online. The first major challenge is to have the appropriate infrastructure ready in time to process large amounts of data that must be presented in a meaningful way. magazine faced by newsrooms is the lack of understanding of the changing digital technologies that power their business.

There are two ways to improve the situation. The first is to make all newsrooms digital newsrooms, by using the same online distribution services that traditional newsrooms use. The second option is to build digital newsrooms within the traditional newsrooms. Some newsrooms have already started to do this, in an effort to create a ‘newsroom’ for the digital revolution in newsrooms. This is still relatively new but shows great promise for the future.

Many newsrooms have already created a digital news initiative – often called the ‘Digital News Lab’. The Lab will consist of a single reporter who lives in the newsroom, reporting on the stories as they break. Many newsrooms have also chosen to assign one reporter to cover a specific topic in the news, in order to help increase the diversity of digital content available to users. This is a wise decision, because it takes the time of a reporter to read up on the subject matter in order to accurately report on it.

Another advantage of having a newsroom covering a specific topic is that it helps to build up the news community around the subject. magazine can choose to send invitations to bloggers and people who would normally be considered members of the news community via social media, to comment on the stories. This also offers opportunities for interesting conversations that would otherwise not surface. This kind of social interaction is important, because it helps to promote the quality of digital news and the news organizations that provide it.

Perhaps magazine of the digital news initiative has to do with the way that it has helped change the way that consumers receive and distribute news. Digital distribution services like Facebook, Digg, and StumbleUpon have all made use of a form of crowdsourcing in order to receive the news and to distribute it to their users. The news is not printed right away – rather, the people who receive the stories first are the ones that are tasked with acting as the real journalists. This crowdsourced model makes it easier for the readers to interact with the digital news, which gives the news organization more credibility and more influence. All in all, it’s clear that digital news is the future of news.
