A social Activist can use many different tactics to bring awareness to a political issue, either by organizing support to aid an afflicted community, or through advocacy campaigns to bring awareness to an affected community. Activists who are politically active attempt to make the political process more concerned about what affects the general public as opposed to focusing solely on the individual. Many people who are politically active attempt to use multiple tactics in order to bring about change. These tactics range from building organization to disseminating information to voting. Social activists also attempt to effect change in the economic environment as well as the political environment. Activism can also be carried out by religious groups.

Activists who have a strong sense of social activism tend to be extremely committed to human rights and social justice. Many people who are politically active are extremely interested in human rights issues and how they affect the world. Activists who have strong human rights interests seek to build coalitions with other like-minded individuals to advance these causes. The most common human rights issues that an Activist might focus on include economic and racial injustice, freedom of speech and gender equality, basic freedom of religion and political prisoners.

People who are involved in social activism are very passionate about human rights and social change. Activists may not engage in direct action to bring about change, but they do spend a great deal of time thinking and talking about social issues. They may be involved in community organization, student politics, church groups or other social activism groups. Activists may be particularly motivated to build coalitions when they feel there is a lack of political leadership on environmental issues. When dealing with environmental issues, an Activist becomes frustrated and often develops a frustration with the process because no one is really listening.

There are two broad types of social action and protest movements; non-violent and violent. Non-violent social actions draw their energy from direct acts of protest rather than achieving some kind of goal through the legal system or using educational campaigns. These types of demonstrations are often peaceful, and the main purpose is to draw attention to certain social issues such as poverty, racism, poverty and other social problems. Often, these types of protests are organized by people working in coordination with local organizers with some participation from members of other activist groups.

Another type of social action or protest is violent social change movements. These activists use intimidation tactics and physical violence to achieve their goals. They usually aim to change a government or popularly elect a specific politician. If the activist believes their goals are not being met by normal political action, then they will resort to unlawful methods to achieve their social change agenda. In the past, violent protests have usually erupted in large-scale violence, with deaths occurring and more damage done to public property belonging to other groups.

Today, most social movements are peaceful, although occasionally violent. Activists involved in these types of protests may engage in civil disobedience as a way to draw attention to a social issue. Other types of social activism are more concerned with changing the social conditions that lead to poverty in developing countries. For example, one group may be environmentalists who want to see increased restrictions on logging in a particular area. By putting pressure on organizations that are responsible for the conditions of the people who live in the area, these activists hope to improve the standard of living for all the people affected by the logging.

Activists can also choose to be part of a collective movement. Collective movements are created when several like-minded people band together to pursue a common goal. This type of social action or social change occurs most often when a single social injustice is addressed by a group of people who are willing to take matters into their own hands. Examples of these types of groups include labor unions, environmentalist groups, anti-war protesters, and other groups committed to social change. By putting their collective effort towards making a social change, activists hope to raise awareness of their issue as well as bring about needed changes. It is up to the people involved in such groups to ensure that the goals they have set forth in their campaign are achieved.

Social action is an important way of staying active as an activist. Activism that takes place within one’s own community is known as social activism. Agency can choose to focus their efforts on improving local conditions or go global to fight for social change. No matter what type of activism someone engages in, there are many rewarding social activities that can provide personal satisfaction as well as help an individual learn about other cultures and lifestyles.
